# Stack Cleaner > A free, open-source developer tool that scans your Claude Code setup and shows every skill, plugin, MCP server, and agent installed — split by global (~/.claude) vs. project (.claude) scope — with real usage counts derived from local Claude Code transcripts, plus automatic duplicate detection. Runs entirely on your machine. Nothing is uploaded. Stack Cleaner is built for developers who use Claude Code and want to audit, organize, and clean up their growing collection of installed extensions. It has two parts: a zero-dependency Node.js scanner (run via `npx stack-cleaner@latest` or `curl -fsSL https://stackcleaner.com/scan.mjs | node`) that writes a redacted `stack-cleaner.json`, and a browser-based inventory viewer at https://stackcleaner.com that parses that file in-browser. No account, no backend, no telemetry. ## What it does - Discovers all Claude Code skills (SKILL.md), plugins, MCP servers, and agents across your global and per-project `.claude` directories. - Reports real usage counts by reading your local Claude Code session transcripts — only tool/skill/agent/MCP-server names, invocation counts, and timestamps; never prompt text. - Detects duplicates and redundancy: a standalone skill/agent/MCP a plugin already bundles ("superseded by plugin"), same-name duplicates, and duplicate MCP servers — each with a recommended copy to keep. - Flags what's installed but never used, so you can see the dead weight. - Generates a cleanup plan as a shell script, a paste-to-Claude prompt, or JSON — you review and run it yourself; the tool never deletes anything. - Redacts API keys, tokens, MCP env values, and URL credentials, and rewrites your home directory to `~`, before writing any file. ## Key facts - License: MIT (free and open source) - npm package: stack-cleaner — https://www.npmjs.com/package/stack-cleaner - Source: https://github.com/BespokeWoodcraftStudio/stack-cleaner - Creator: Bespoke Woodcraft Studio — https://github.com/BespokeWoodcraftStudio - Not affiliated with Anthropic.
