The same settings work for every mailbox on `advmfr.net`. Only the username
changes, and it is always the full address.

## Settings

Use the secure SSL/TLS settings. They are the ones cPanel recommends, and the
only ones that keep the password off the wire.

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Username | your full email address, for example `hr@advmfr.net` |
| Password | the password of that mailbox |
| Incoming server | `mail.advmfr.net` |
| IMAP port | `993` |
| POP3 port | `995` |
| Outgoing server | `mail.advmfr.net` |
| SMTP port | `465` |

**IMAP, POP3 and SMTP all require authentication.** A client configured to send
without authenticating will be refused, which is the intended behaviour: it is
what stops anyone on the internet from sending mail as this domain.

## The three things people get wrong

**The username is the whole address.** Not `hr`, but `hr@advmfr.net`. A client
that fails to connect with a password everyone agrees is correct is almost always
missing the domain part.

**The password is the mailbox password, not the cPanel one.** They are different
accounts. The cPanel password opens the hosting control panel; the mailbox
password opens one mailbox.

**Use the ports above and no others.** Unencrypted ports exist on the same
server, and a client will happily use them. They send the password in clear text
across every network between the device and the server, including whatever wifi
the device is on.

## IMAP or POP3

**IMAP keeps the mail on the server.** Read a message on a phone and it shows as
read on a laptop. Folders are shared. This is what you want when a mailbox is
opened from more than one device.

**POP3 downloads the mail and, by default, removes it from the server.** Anything
downloaded to one device is then invisible from the others, and absent from any
server backup. It is the older way, and it is the reason some mailboxes appear
empty in webmail while the messages sit on a single desktop machine.

## Before sending anything in bulk

The whole domain shares **180 outgoing messages per hour**. Past that limit mail
is not delayed, it is destroyed.

That limit is per domain, not per mailbox: a mailing sent from one address
consumes the quota of every other. This has already cost the company real
documents, and the record is in
[the incident of 17 August](/docs/it/email/log/2026-08-17-incident-rate-limit).

Company-wide messages go through the Google Workspace side, never through a
mailbox configured with the settings above.
