## Where

<CpanelPath steps={['Email', 'Track Delivery']} url="mail/delivery/index.html" />

cPanel puts a session token in its URLs, so a deep link does not survive a
reconnection. The menu path always works; the relative path can be pasted into
the address bar once already logged in.

## What it answers

One question: **what happened to this specific message?** It is the delivery log
of the mail server: every message in and out, with its outcome.

It is where you go when someone says "I never got it" and Quarantine is empty.

## How

1. Open Track Delivery.
2. Search by address, or click **Show Blocked & Failed** to see only what did not
   go through.
3. Read the outcome column.

## Traps

These three cost more time than anything else about this tool.

**Data is kept 24 hours. Only.** Anything older than yesterday did not merely
disappear from the log: as far as this tool is concerned, it never happened. If
a delivery problem needs a durable record, it has to be written down somewhere
else. That is what the [log](/docs/it/email/log) exists for.

**The search box needs the full email address.** Typing `advmfr.net` finds
nothing at all, which reads exactly like "no such message". Type
`export@advmfr.net` and the same search returns everything.

**"Accepted" does not mean delivered.** It means the message was handed to the
outbound relay. If the relay refuses it afterwards, the failure comes back as a
bounce in the sender's own inbox, and Track Delivery still shows "Accepted".

## What to report

Anything in **Show Blocked & Failed** that looks like one of these:

- a burst of similar messages: same sender pattern, same subject: a new spam wave;
- a legitimate-looking sender in the failed list;
- `FAIL with message`: this should never appear again, raise it immediately;
- `exceeded the max emails per hour` or `Message discarded`, real outgoing mail
  is being lost right now. Note which mailbox is sending, and raise it immediately;
- any address shaped like `something.advmfr@gmail.com`, a Gmail twin of a company
  mailbox, appearing in a business thread. Report it **before anyone replies**, and
  never act on payment details coming from such an address.
